And Annas and Caiaphas, and the elders and the scribes, Nicodemus, Joseph, and Gamaliel, and others of the Jews, went to Pilate accusing Jesus with many charges and saying:
Jews said:
“We know this man is the son of Joseph the carpenter, born of Mary, and he says he is the Son of God and a king.
We are disturbed because he breaks the Sabbath, saying he is not bound by the Law, and he claims God as his own Father.”
Pilate asked them:
Pilate said:
“What are His deeds?”
They replied:
“He heals the sick, cleanses lepers, casts out demons, and raises the dead. He teaches the people contrary to the Law.”
Pilate asked:
“He raises the dead? By what power?”
The Jews answered:
“We do not know. Some say Elijah, others say he is a sorcerer.”
Then Pilate sent a messenger to Jesus, and He was brought in.
When Jesus entered, the standard-bearers carrying the Roman banners bowed low, and their images bent toward Him.
Pilate saw and was amazed.
The Jews were enraged and said:
“Did you see the images bowing themselves to Him?”
Pilate said:
“It is not the images that bowed, but the unseen power within Him.”
Then Pilate questioned Jesus, saying:
“Are You the King of the Jews?”
Jesus answered:
“You say so.”
And as the chief priests accused Him of many things, Pilate found no fault in Him.
