The History of Israel in Animal Imagery (Part 1)
From Noah to the Final Judgment

  1. And one of those four angels took me and raised me up, and placed me in the midst of the sheep before the judgment took place.

  2. And he showed me what had been and what would come to pass, and I saw until that white bull was born.

  3. And they began to bring forth beasts of the field and birds of the air; and there were all kinds of them—lions, panthers, wolves, dogs, hyenas, wild boars, foxes, squirrels, swine, falcons, vultures, kites, eagles, and ravens.

  4. And among them was born a white bull, and they began to bite one another; but that white bull, which was born among them, brought forth a wild ass and a white sheep.

  5. And that sheep brought forth twelve sheep.

  6. And when those twelve sheep had grown, they gave one of them to the asses.

  7. And those asses again gave that sheep over to the wolves, and that sheep grew up among the wolves.

  8. And the Lord brought the eleven sheep to dwell with it, and to pasture with it among the wolves, and they multiplied and became many flocks of sheep.

  9. And the wolves began to fear them, and they oppressed them until they destroyed their little ones.

  10. And they cast their young into a river of much water; but those sheep began to cry out for their little ones, and to complain to their Lord.

  11. And a sheep which had been saved from the wolves fled and escaped to the wild asses.

  12. And I saw the sheep how they lamented and cried, and how they begged their Lord with all their might, until that Lord of the sheep came down at the cry of the sheep from His high abode.

  13. And He came to them and looked at them.

  14. And He called that sheep which had escaped from the wolves, and spoke with it concerning the wolves that had devoured the others.

  15. And He took that sheep and strengthened it and made it a ram and leader of the sheep.

  16. And the Lord began to send the sheep with it, to pasture them by His hand.

  17. And the wolves no longer had power over the sheep.

  18. And that ram began to butt the wolves and battle with them.

  19. And the wolves cried out bitterly, but the sheep were silent and did not cry.

  20. And I looked and saw that man who wrote down the names of the sheep as they were brought before Him.

  21. And He took that book and showed it to the Lord of the sheep and pleaded with Him on their behalf.

  22. And I saw until the Lord of the sheep came to them in wrath and all who saw Him fled, and they all fell into His shadow.

  23. All the eagles, vultures, ravens, and kites were gathered together and brought with them all the wild sheep, and they came and helped one another to break that house of the sheep, and to enter it and devour them.

  24. And the Lord of the sheep, together with all the sheep, came to the house of the sheep, and they began to kill all those wild beasts, and the beasts and the birds were driven from that house.

  25. And He called seventy shepherds and sent them to pasture the sheep, and He said to the shepherds and to their companions: “Let each of you pasture the sheep from now on, and all that I shall command you, do.”

  26. And I will deliver them over to you according to their number and tell you which of them shall be destroyed. And you shall destroy them.”

  27. And He gave over the sheep to them.

  28. And He called another and said to him: “Observe and record everything the shepherds do to the sheep—for they destroy more than I have commanded them.”

  29. And every excess and killing which the shepherds commit, record—how many they destroy by My command, and how many by their own will.

  30. Record against every shepherd all the destruction he causes.

  31. And read aloud before Me the number which they have destroyed, and every one I shall know.

  32. There shall not be a single one among them that escapes Me.

  33. For every one I see. And behold, the shepherds and their companions delivered over the sheep to all the beasts to devour them.

  34. And each one of them received a number and was written by the other in a book—how many each destroyed.

  35. And every one killed many more than was commanded, and they handed over those sheep to be devoured.
