Revelation 11

1 And was given to me a reed like to a rod, saying: Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those worshiping in it.

2 And the courtyard which is outside the temple throw out, and do not measure it, because it was given to the nations; and the city, the holy [one], they will trample forty-two months.

3 And I will give to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred sixty days, having been clothed in sackcloth.

4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands, the ones standing before the Lord of the earth.

5 And if anyone wants to harm them, fire goes out from their mouth and devours their enemies; and if anyone would will to harm them, thus it is necessary for him to be killed.

6 These have the authority to shut the heaven so that rain does not fall during the days of their prophecy; and authority they have over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and will conquer them and will kill them.

8 And their corpse [will be] on the street of the great city, which is called spiritually Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

9 And [people] from the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations look at their corpse for three and a half days, and they do not allow their corpses to be put into a tomb.

10 And those dwelling on the earth rejoice over them and celebrate, and they will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those dwelling on the earth.

11 And after the three days and a half, a spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell upon those watching them.

12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying to them: "Come up here." And they went up into the heaven in the cloud, and their enemies saw them.

13 And in that hour there came a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell, and were killed in the earthquake seven thousand people by name, and the rest became terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

14 The woe, the second, has passed; behold, the woe, the third, is coming quickly.

15 And the seventh angel sounded the trumpet; and there came loud voices in heaven saying: ?The kingdom of the world has become [that] of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign for the ages of the ages.?

16 And the twenty-four elders, who sit before God on their thrones, fell on their faces and worshiped God.

17 Saying: We give thanks to You, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power and reigned.

18 And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and to give the reward to Your servants the prophets and the saints and those fearing Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.

19 And the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple; and there came flashes of lightning and voices and peals of thunder and an earthquake and great hail.

Revelation 11:4 Translator Notes

"Two olive trees and two lampstands" is a direct allusion to Zechariah 4, where similar imagery is used to describe God's anointed servants.
"Standing before the Lord of the earth" gives them divine authorization and presence—they serve in God's court.
